âhtokwê – “to move camp, to move away”

Well I’m happy to say that the air is finally cleared here. We no longer have to chew it before ingesting it! The thick smoke disappeared in Saturday morning after a change in the winds & almost 2 hrs of precipitation. But in spite of the rain the fires continue.

As of 10 am this morning there were 57 fires reported & 2 having been put out. Unfortunately 2 new ones started today.

Residents of 3 of the towns had the evacuation order lifted & residents are being allowed to go home but only with an escort & in convoys. There are still many hot spots & the authorities are still advising being ready, with a bag packed. A couple of other towns were still advised to stay away… hope they get back soon! Must be really hard on the families especially the children.

While it’s not something I had to do deal with back on PEI this bit of adventure is bringing back memories of youth in northern Ontario. Which, coincidentally so does living here in La Ronge bring back those pleasant memories. :)

  1. Hi Reji (and Pam),

I have been thinking about you a lot this past week. I am glad that things seem to be settling down a bit.

The dogs are all doing fine. Cocoa just had her annual check up and still under 3 1/2 pounds. A hard week for Mom and Lily Puck this week, as Sophie went home to Nancy. Our cousins have just arrived from Edmonton with their 2 chihuahuas so there is more company for them. Cocoa met them for the first time today and they seemed to hit it off. It should be lots of fun for the next 6 weeks to have 4 chihuahuas together.

    Take care,
Say hi to Molly and Chesney!

  2. Wow! It will be quite hilarious & entertaining to have 4 Chi’s in one location! That’s a sight & sound we both miss a lot living out here & without our complete gang! :(

    Cuidhil-meaban
