And I thought I had it tough!

Still a bit exhausted from organizing & walking 3 dogs of 3 very different sizes & natures. Molly, of course was confident enough to carry on as usual but add in a small Chihuahua, approximately 5 or so inches at the shoulder & who walks in a manner similar to the Tasmanian Devil as well as an 11 mos. old jet-lagged & confused German Shepherd puppy on a 12 foot non-retractable leash & you get what would under normal circumstances be a comedy of errors. But a nightmare for a wheelchair user with leashes twisted & entwined around lots of dog legs & worst of all this 50 lbs pup’s leash had wrapped around one of the wheels of my power wheelchair. And we had just only gotten out of the door! :D

I managed to connect Chesney to his outside leash then had to climb out of my chair down onto the almost frozen mud so that I could work the joystick of 325 lbs of electric wheelchair while unwrapping the leash on the in axle of the wheel. Not an easy task as it was also attached to a very, very confused puppy. Once we all regained our composure & positions I put the small guys back in the apartment & walked Cruiser.

As a visual artist I find it very difficult to pick the right words to describe his walk. If you can envision a very tall lanky athlete running, better yet loping along, you’ve almost got it. The smooth rolling effect of this gait is quite beautiful … it’s like he’s Cruising! Maybe thats why his registered name is PT Cruiser?-

What could be worse than the exhaustion of 3 dogs & an old guy in the wheelchair you ask? How about Pam who had to drive Saskatoon on Sunday & then drive all the way to Regina the next morning to pick up Cruiser at the airport at 5:5pm, drive back up to Prince Albert & rest for the evening with a very upset & disoriented & ‘jet-lagged’ puppy, who whined & tossed & turned for most of the night. Pam then drove the 2½ hrs north to La Ronge, drop the dog off at our apartment, had a quick coffee then switch to a vehicle from provided by her office

And I thought I had it tough!

Mmmmm? Wonder what I’ll put together for our supper tonight? Hope I don’t mix up the dog dishes with the ‘Bison Smokies’ stew I was planning. I know how much Pam enjoys those high sodium & carbohydrate meals … :D

Well, wish me luck for today …

  1. Interesting picture the four of you all tangled up, hard enough with 2 chihuahuas on leash and standing up. Looks as though Cruiser is becoming your buddy. I guess Pam had to go back to P A and Saskatoon.

  2. Pretty Handsome Fella! ……Cruiser of course

  3. Peter, No arguments here … He’s a perfect gentleman too. Where oh where did my parents go wrong, eh?

  4. Hi!
    Great Blog!
Where did you get your German Shepherd from?

  5. From a breeder in southern Ontario whose name I rather not say… the dog was returned a month ago due to problems with his hind-end. A beautiful guy but obviously not suitable for a sevice dog .
