Diluain Màrt 19 ~ Monday 19th Mar. 2007

Ever heard the expression “3 times lucky” ? Guess it only applies if you not looking for an accessible room because it happened again! Not at the Best Worst Western this time but a small motel on Hwy 17 in Marathon ON. When setting this reservation the motel operator assured me that the rooms were accessible. But something in the way he said it did get me wondering … so at least we were prepared for it this time. When we arrived at this motel in Marathon ON Pam went into the room with the owner to check it out before I got out of the vehicle. This fellow assured Pam that the bathroom door they standing in front of was 28 inches wide but Pam knew it wasn’t … more like 24 inches. And sure enough the tape measure the owner had in his pocket proved Pam right. “Oh” says the owner … “Oh well”

It took us another 100 kms of driving before we found something … & it seems our luck had changed! In a little town on Hwy 17 in northern Ontario White River there is a motel called the Continental Motel that has a new section with access. While not being totally outfitted for all levels of disabilities it does have a very large bathroom with easy access sink & a large room with pull-out couch. And the attached restaurant does make a very nice pickerel dinner! With a nice glass of wine if you tastes run to the grape too … ;-)

On the bright side of this … well besides finding a new accessible motel & good food was that the extra driving yesterday means less today. A blessing for Pam who is the sole driver on this journey … bless her heart! And the beauty of this area of Ontario is, as always something else! Canada, eh? What a place!

On the shores of Lake Superior

Today’s destination: Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island Ontario …. 654 kms

Our destination today is a little B&B on Manitoulin Island. Along the way we’ll stop in a little town called Massey for some more great food! This little diner has one of the best egg sandwiches we’ve ever had for breakfast. Massey is always a surprise! The town has an annual Street Painting Festival. Some of these works are on display year round …
