Our stay at the little B&B on Manitoulin Island was wonderful & quite! The owner, a very interesting fellow, originally from the UK, built the house & is building up the property into ‘guest friendly’ place. So if you’ve had the urge go to Manitoulin, & we do recommend going Manitoulin …. stop in at a very friendly B&B called Cedarwood in Providence Bay on the island.
It gets very dark at night on the Island & the stars are incredible. The Central Manitoulin Township enacted the “Outdoor Lighting Control and Dark Sky By-law” to reduce the light pollution. I bet the summer night skies are something to see!! And the silence of this get-away is almost deafening! To top off our brief time on the Island the owner puts together a delicious full course breakfast with very fresh eggs. Yup they have their own chickens. The accommodations are very pleasant & comfortable.
Lots of bookshelves that double as doorways to the rest of the house & walls that also serve as doorways into the the comfort bedroom. And there is even one hidden doorway in the wall going to his shop. Which of course, I considered a consecrated place … tool guys, eh? Nothing like the the smell a shop full of drying wood …
Our morning drive takes us through Sudbury, ON. In winter the terrain reminds me of the way it used to be around 30 odd years ago. A barren wasteland! But if you go through in spring, summer or the fall season it’s actually quite beautiful.

As you may have noticed in previous postings of our trip we both have an appreciation of fine foods & having travelled across this great nation of ours a few times we know where to get an excellent white gourmet meal, great club sandwich & this particular portion of our journey … where to get the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. There is dairy / diner on Hwy 17 just you are entering Deep River, ON where they put together the best grilled cheese using real butter & ‘real’ cheese!
This part of the journey doesn’t have the dramatic scenery of northern Ontario but it is quite beautiful too in a flat’ sort of way.
Was hoping to pass by the gate to Camp Petawawa where I spent the first 10 years of my life. Unfortunately there’s now a bypass. Missed it entirely! Oh well …
Today’s destination: Ottawa Ontario …. 675 kms
